Maastricht
Dating from pre-Roman times, this provincial capital is Holland's oldest city. Nowadays Maastricht is widely know as a centre of tradition, history and culture.  Located within walking distance of Belgium and cycling distance of Germany, the city has always been of strategic importance. Maastricht was besieged 21 times and 9 of the 100 castles of Limburg province can be found here.  The city is also known for its fine cuisine, excellent shops, and multicultural atmostphere.
